Employer name resolution

State agencies file one employer under many name strings — typically one per building, store, or site, and sometimes with a dba or subsidiary tail. Left alone, that splits a single employer across dozens of records and makes every per-company total wrong.

Kcalbin normalises these strings: site and building suffixes, dba and subsidiary tails, and legal suffixes are removed, and the remainder is matched. Two names are combined only when they agree closely; the bias is deliberately toward leaving an employer split rather than merging two different employers. Each company page publishes the underlying name strings it combined, so any grouping can be checked. Across the California series this resolves 2648 filed name strings into 1632 employers.

Known gaps — stated rather than hidden

California begins 25 April 2023. EDD's live report covers only the current fiscal year; earlier years exist as separate archives. Kcalbin has reassembled the series from April 2023. Filings before that date are not held, so 2023 is a partial year.
New York county detail is not published. A share of the NY export carries free-text notice dates and no headcount. Those rows are held and counted but not charted, and no NY county pages are generated.
Same-day, same-county filings are combined. Where an employer files several notices for different sites in one county on one date, the headcounts are summed into a single record.
What is deliberately not shown. Kcalbin holds a county industry-classification and disruption score used internally. Its industry labels are wrong for a number of large metropolitan counties, so they are excluded from these public pages. Only unemployment figures, which come directly from BLS, are published here.
