Coverage differs by state (see below): California (CSLB) includes disciplinary/suspension status; Oregon (CCB) and Texas (TDLR) publish active status, classification and expiration, but not disciplinary history.

The problem this solves

A contractor's license can expire, lapse, get suspended, or lose its bond or workers'-comp coverage at any time — and nobody tells you. If you're a general contractor vetting subs, a property manager or lender approving work, or a homeowner about to sign, the moment that matters is the moment you hire, not the day the license was first issued. Checking each one by hand on CSLB, over and over, is exactly the chore that quietly stops getting done.

Coverage today — and the honest differences per state

We verify against each state's own official license data, and we state plainly what each state does and does not publish. We'd rather cover a few states truthfully than fifty badly.

California — CSLB (Check-A-License). The richest source: current status (active / expired / suspended / revoked), entity type, classifications, contractor's bond, workers' compensation, complaint disclosure, and issue/expiration dates.
Oregon — CCB active-licenses open data (data.oregon.gov). License holder, status (active / expired, derived from the state's active list and expiration date), classification and expiration. Oregon does not publish disciplinary or suspension history in this data, so we don't claim it — we monitor active/expired and classification changes only.
Texas — TDLR all-licenses open data (data.texas.gov). License holder, status (active / expired), license type/subtype and expiration. Texas does not publish disciplinary or suspension history in this data either — active/expired and classification changes only.

Data freshness: California is read live from CSLB at check time; Oregon and Texas are read from the states' daily-refreshed open datasets. Every record we return carries the timestamp of when we verified it and links to the state's own source. A license the state has no record of is shown as "no record found", never invented.
